1 2007-10-22 1 (Attack aviation crews engage extremists placing roadside bomb ) Multi-National Division-Baghdad attack helicopter crews killed one extremist and injured five Oct. 22 in a northern section of the Iraqi capital after the insurgents were observed trying to place a roadside bomb. The Apache helicopter crews from the 1st “Attack” Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, worked with the ground forces from 2nd SCR to gain positive identification of the extremists placing the roadside bomb. 1 2007-10-21 1 (Iraqi Special Operations Forces detain two suspected terrorist operatives, kill one) Iraqi Special Operation Forces, advised by U.S. Special Forces, detained two officials of Jaysh al-Mahdi’s al Habibiyah Office, who are accused of conducting criminal activity despite Muqtada al-Sadr’s request to cease such activity. The individuals were detained during an intelligence-driven raid Oct. 21 in New Baghdad. 49 2007-10-21 1 (Coalition forces target Special Groups member, kill 6 criminals) In an intelligence driven operation this morning in Sadr City, Coalition forces were engaged in a firefight that resulted in the killing of an estimated six criminals. Upon arrival, the ground force began to clear a series of buildings in the target area when they were engaged by machine gun fire and rocket propelled grenades from adjacent structures. Supporting aircraft was called in to suppress the enemy fire, killing an estimated 10 criminals. All total, Collation forces estimate that 49 criminals were killed in three separate engagements during this operation. As the ground force cleared the target building, they discovered a woman in a room and directed her to get down. Baresh, a tribal commissioner and member of the Arab Jabour Concerned Citizens program, said he ordered the man to lift his shirt - using training received from Coalition Forces - when he did not recognize him as a local villager. The suspect refused to lift his shirt.  Baresh repeated the command again, and the suspect exposed his suicide vest, running toward the checkpoint.
