The History International Channel was supposed to broadcast an episode called “Guns of Beretta” in its Guns of The World series tonight. In a last minute switch, they replaced the show with “Secrets of the Aegean Apocalypse.”

My DirectTV “live” guide says that it will be shown again at 3am Thursday, but when I searched the History International site it came up with the message “We’re sorry, there is no upcoming episode”

I’m going to assume this has something to do with VA Tech and the effort to foist European gun laws on us.

Or am I just being too cynical?

Check out this video posted on WaPo.com (I know, not THAT rag!) showing Webb whining about not having his own Secret Service detail like the President. If you don’t want to waste time watching the whole thing (he starts snivelling about 2 minutes in) here’s the transcript:

If you look at people in the Executive branch, uh, if you look at the number of people defending the President, uh.. and other members of the Executive branch, there is not that, uh, kind of protection available to people in the Legislative branch. We are, uh, required to defend ourselves and, uh I choose to do so…

Sooooo, are we to assume that poor widdle Webb, the big-brave-EX-Marine needs a tax payer paid posse to protect him? And that we should pay to provide Secret Service details to all 535 members of Congress? Or, is he really saying that the Secret Service should NOT be protecting Bush?

Just who is it that would want to off this Lion of Liberalism? Islamofacists? Certainly not! Right-wing nutjobs? We don’t play that game, homey!

Who would be the bigger target for an assasin, anyway? Bush v. Webb: there is no apparent upside to whacking the Senator. He’s not that important.

Maybe that’s the real reason he’s whining.

Today begins the BIG CONFERENCE about the U.N.’s plan to disarm America. From an opinion piece on CFIF.org:

“By unanimously adopting the Programme of Action in 2001, the UN Member states committed themselves to collecting and destroying illegal weapons, adopting and/or improving national legislation to help criminalize the illicit trade in small arms, regulating the activities of brokers, setting strict import and export controls, taking action against violators of such laws, and better coordinating international efforts to that end.”
Just what America needs – the U.N. dictating its gun laws.

Oh, puleeeze! Have you looked at the U.N. “We’re wussies and we know it” site? It features such sterling characters as:

Michael Douglas, U.N. Messenger of Peace: “Wherever arms flow, violence follows.”
The only thing that “flows” from Mikey can easily be caught with a pair of Depends. Good ol’ Kofi chimes in with

The death toll from small arms dwarfs that of all other weapons systems- and in most years greatly exceeds the toll of the atomic bombs that devastated Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In terms of the carnage they cause, small arms, indeed, could well be described as ‘weapons of mass destruction’.

Run away!!!!!
And then there’s the name itself: the UN Programme of Action. C’mon now, anything spelled Frenchly can safely be considered impotent. Continuing from the CFIF piece:

The U.N. also officially invited several non-governmental participants, including the “Biting the Bullet Consortium” and the notorious London-based International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), whose website baldly proclaims, “Bringing the Global Gun Crisis Under Control.” IANSA’s official site asserts that the U.S. is “the leading supplier of conventional arms to the developing world,” that it has “one of the world’s largest markets for small arms,” and that “the private resale of guns is largely unregulated in the United States, making it difficult to prevent their acquisition.”

HOORAY! We’re #1 We’re #1!!!
The real aim of this carnival is anything but funny. The article points out that the U.N. holds up examples like “Cambodia, Congo, Haiti, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, Timor, and the former Yugoslav republics as inspirational models” of how the world can be better if only the riff-raff can be disarmed and cowed into compliance.

Lest one disregard the summit as simply another inept and pointless U.N. boondoggle, consider the long-term strategy to completely eliminate firearms acknowledged by Pete Shields, former leader of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence:”The first problem is to slow down the number of handguns being produced and sold in this country. The second problem is to get handguns registered. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition – except for military, police, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors – totally illegal.” (emphasis added)

Let’s see, just how did this affect people in the UK and Austrailia? Oh yeah – violent crime skyrocketed! Armed, law abiding citizens bacame the villains; unarmed law abiding citizens became terrorized and even dead by cocksure criminals. Britain has now gone so far as to suggest to Police departments that they simply give robbers a warning rather than bothering to bring them in on charges and go thru the circus of trying them in court only to let them go on their merry way and rob again.

Other nations may capitulate and run with tails-between-legs fright at the thought of NOT backing these commie schemes. I don’t believe our U.S. ambassador to the UN, John “High Noon” Bolton, will have changed his opinion much from the 2001 conference.
“The United States believes that the responsible use of firearms is a legitimate aspect of national life.“
